Abstract:
Graph Theory is an important branch of Discrete Mathematics that deals with mathematical structures used to represent relationships and connections between different objects. A graph consists mainly of vertices and edges. Vertices represent objects, while edges represent relationships or connections between those objects.
Graph Theory has become an important mathematical tool for studying real-life networks. It is used in transportation systems, communication networks, computer networks, social networks, project scheduling, electrical networks and many other areas. The mathematical representation of such systems helps in understanding connections, finding efficient routes and solving network-related problems.
This paper presents a study of the basic concepts of Graph Theory and selected real-life applications. Different types of graphs, vertices, edges, degree, paths, connectivity and weighted graphs are discussed. Simple mathematical examples are used to demonstrate how Graph Theory can be applied to represent and analyse real-world problems, supported throughout with illustrative diagrams.
